Read ThisHello everyone, today we're going to talk about gems in New World: Aeternum. These glittering little stones may seem unassuming, but their power shouldn't be underestimated. Whether you want to deal massive damage, reduce damage taken, or control aggro like a professional tank, the right gems can completely transform your gaming experience, and if you're looking to speed up your progression or buy New World Coins to acquire those top-tier pristine gems faster, there are options available to help you get geared and ready for battle. This guide will give you a detailed overview of everything about gems. We'll explain how to acquire gems, their functions, and how to ensure you choose the right gems for different game content—whether it's PvE, PvP, or challenging boss fights. After reading this guide, you'll have a complete grasp of how to maximize the effectiveness of your gear. Let's get started!
So, let's talk about how to actually get your hands on gems in Aeternum.
The easiest way by far is to just head to the Trading Post. If you've got the coin, you can buy pretty much any gem you need, already cut and ready to slot into your gear. This is a great option if you're in a hurry or you just don't feel like grinding for gems.
If you want to be self-sufficient or save some gold, you can mine and craft the gems yourself.
1. Mine Raw Gemstones: Head out into the world and start mining. You can get raw gemstones from various ores like Iron, Silver, and Gold. Higher-tier ores have a better chance, but keep in mind raw gemstones are rare, so don't expect them to pop up all the time. When they do, it feels pretty good!
2. Refine at the Outfitting Station: Once you've got your raw gemstones, the next step is to refine them. Visit an Outfitting Station to turn your raw gems into cut gems that can be slotted into your gear.
How do you match your gems to the content you're running? The key is maximizing your protection and damage output by matching your gems to the enemies you face.
If you're running high-level PvE content like Mutations, your best bet is to slot Cut Pristine Gems. When you fully slot your gear with gems that match the element of the enemies you're facing, you can get massive protection.
· The 63% Target: You can achieve up to 63% protection from a specific element when this is paired with an amulet that has the same elemental protection.
· Example: If you're running a dungeon with a lot of fire damage, slot Ruby gems in your armor and use an amulet with fire protection. This is huge, especially in harder content like M3s, where the extra protection is the difference between survival and a wipe.
A Note on Shields (Post-Editing Note):
If you're running Sword & Shield or Flail, don't forget your shield!
· Add Enchanted Ward and the specific Shield Ward (e.g., Flame Ward) to your shield.
· With a Tower Shield, this can push your protection even higher. For example, with full rubies, a Flame Ward on your shield, and the Elemental Resistance perk on your shield, you can reach a crazy 87.9% fire damage protection!
Ideally, as you progress, you'll want multiple sets of armor with different gem protections for different bosses. That way, you can easily switch gear based on the enemies you're about to face. For example, have a set ready with Amethysts for Void damage bosses.
But let's be real—not everyone has the resources for multiple armor sets right away. One of the easiest solutions is to start by switching your Amulet.
· Amulets are a great way to tweak your protection without overhauling your entire gear set.
· Have different amulets with gem slots for Fire, Void, Ice, etc., and just swap them out depending on the boss. You boost your protection without investing in multiple full gear sets.
· Early Game / Open World / Chest Runs: If you're just leveling or doing open world content, a good split is 4 Onyx and 4 Opals. This gives you general protection against everything.
· Getting into Mutations: If you want to run mutations but don't want to keep switching gems constantly, run full Pristine Opals. Then, start building up protection amulets and switch those around to match the mutation. This helps a lot early on without spending too much money.
Let's go over all the gems in New World and break down when and why you would use each one. There are 14 types, and each has a unique use case depending on whether you're slotting them in weapons or armor.
These all work similarly:
· In Weapons: They convert 50% of your damage to a specific elemental type. Use this when enemies are weak to that element.
· In Armor: They provide damage absorption from that respective element. Use this to counter the damage enemies are dealing.
Gem | Weapon Effect (50% Conversion) | Armor Effect (Absorption) | Best Use Case |
Ruby | Converts damage to Fire | Absorbs Fire damage | Vs. Fire-based enemies/bosses |
Aquamarine | Converts damage to Ice | Absorbs Ice damage | Vs. Ice-based enemies/bosses |
Amethyst | Converts damage to Void | Absorbs Void damage | Vs. Void-based enemies/bosses |
Topaz | Converts damage to Lightning | Absorbs Lightning damage | Vs. Lightning-based enemies |
Sapphire | Converts damage to Arcane | Absorbs Arcane damage | Vs. Arcane-based enemies |
Amber | Converts damage to Nature | Absorbs Nature damage | Vs. Nature-based enemies |
These are essential for reducing melee and physical damage. They are super important for tanking or against bosses that hit hard with physical attacks.
Gem | Armor Effect | Best Use Case |
Onyx | Reduces Physical damage | Great all-around PvE physical defense. PvP vs. physical builds (GA, Hatchet, Spear). Not effective in weapons. |
Moonstone | Reduces Slash damage | Vs. enemies/bosses with swords or axes. (Very niche weapon uses, but don't worry about that now). |
Jasper | Reduces Strike damage | Vs. enemies with blunt weapons or huge smash attacks. |
Emerald | Reduces Thrust damage | Essential in PvP vs. Bows/Muskets. Useful vs. certain PvE bosses. |
Gem | Effect | Best Use Case |
Carnelian | In Weapons: Generates threat and provides taunts. | A must-have for Tanks. The higher the tier, the more threat you generate. Crucial for keeping aggro in group content. |
Opal | In Armor: Provides protection against all elemental types. | A great flexible option for running different mutations without constantly swapping gems. You'll take slightly more damage than with focused gems, so you may need more Constitution. |
Diamond | In Weapons: Bonus to damage and healing when at full health. | Great for DPS builds that stay topped off. Fantastic for Healers, as the bonus applies to both damage and healing output. |
So, to wrap things up, when it comes to gems in New World, there's no one-size-fits-all approach. The gems you choose should always depend on the content you're running.
· For PvE (Dungeons/Mutations): Slot elemental gems in your armor that match the damage type you're facing. Aim for that 63% protection with your amulet.
· For PvP: Use a balanced setup that covers both physical and elemental damage.
· For Weapons: Diamond (for sustained DPS/healing) or Elemental Gems (to exploit weaknesses) are usually your best bet.
· For Tanks: Carnelian in your weapon is non-negotiable.
· On a Budget: Swap out amulets to boost specific resistances without changing your whole armor set.
· For Flexibility: Use Opals in your armor to handle different elemental threats with one set.
· The main thing to remember is that gems are there to make your build stronger and to protect you from what's coming your way. Adjust your setup as you go, and you'll feel the difference. Of course, if you're looking to fast-track your gearing process or need to stock up on resources, you can buy cheap New World Gold from MMOEXP to help you acquire those pristine gems and amulets without the endless grind. Thanks for hanging out! I hope this guide helps you crush it in Aeternum. Now get out there and slot those gems
