While the game has already seen several updates early in the year, the real excitement lies in the massive wave of content scheduled to arrive over the coming months. From improvements to the Sailing skill to new quests, regions, bosses, and even a brand-new raid, the upcoming updates are poised to significantly reshape the game’s meta.

Sailing Combat Improvements
One of the most anticipated updates focuses on improving ship combat within the Sailing skill. Sailing was one of the biggest additions to the game last year, but many players felt that ship combat mechanics were clunky, slow, and generally unsatisfying.
To address these concerns, several key changes are planned.
A major issue involved the availability and cost of cannonballs. Players quickly realized that ship combat burned through cannonballs far too quickly, making the activity expensive and inefficient. The initial proposal aimed to double cannonball production by introducing a new mold that would allow players to smith eight cannonballs per bar instead of four. Additional supply from monster drops and thieving sources was also considered.
However, that proposal failed to pass the required polling threshold. As an alternative, developers are considering introducing a Ballistic Attractor, a ship upgrade similar to Ava’s attractor for ranged gear. This device would give players a 60% chance to save cannonballs when firing them, helping reduce costs during combat.
Cannons themselves are also being redesigned. Instead of firing rapidly with low damage, cannons will attack more slowly but deal significantly more serious damage per hit. While overall damage per second will remain the same, the change will reduce cannonball usage and make ship combat feel more impactful.
Another important adjustment involves weapon damage scaling. Previously, powerful weapons were artificially limited during ship combat, leading to strange situations where top-tier gear felt weak. This damage cap will be removed, allowing players to deal normal damage with their equipment.
Additional quality-of-life features are also coming, including a “fire at will” mode that allows crew members to attack nearby enemies automatically. This eliminates the need for constant manual commands and makes combat flow more smoothly.
League 6 Arrives in April
The next confirmed update is League 6: Demonic Packs, launching on April 15. Like previous leagues, this temporary game mode will last eight weeks and introduce unique mechanics designed to shake up gameplay.
Players can expect familiar features such as relics, combat masteries, and region locking. However, one notable twist is that players will not begin in the traditional starting area of Misthalin. Instead, a new starting region will be introduced, potentially hinting at deeper connections to newer areas of the game.
Echo bosses are also returning, offering powerful challenges and rewards for players exploring the league’s special progression system.
The Blood Moon Rises Questline
As the year progresses into summer, one of the most exciting updates arrives: Blood Moon Rises, the final quest in the Myreque storyline.
This quest will unlock a brand-new region called Vampyrium, an eerie vampire-themed area filled with new skilling activities, monsters, and bosses. To access the quest, players must complete Sins of the Father and meet several skill requirements in the 70+ range.
The quest rewards include two new weapons. One is an upgraded flail designed specifically for slaying vampires, now featuring a faster four-tick attack speed. The other is a unique special-attack weapon that always deals at least 70% of its maximum damage when activated.
New Skilling Methods in Vampyrium
The Vampyrium region introduces several new skilling activities designed to diversify training methods.
One example is Bloodwood Trees, which require mid-70s Woodcutting. These trees offer around 50–60k experience per hour when trained casually, but can reach up to 90k experience with more active methods. Cutting these trees produces bloodwood sap, a key resource used in creating new ranged ammunition.
Another new method involves Seeker Arrows, a powerful addition to ranged combat. These arrows increase accuracy and guarantee a minimum damage threshold if the attack successfully hits. Players can create them using bloodwood sap combined with existing arrows or crafted arrow shafts.
Hunter training is also receiving an update with the introduction of Stimpikes, a two-step hunting method. Players first gather bait using box traps before using it to lure and capture the creatures. Experience rates are expected to reach roughly 150k per hour, placing it among the stronger Hunter training options.
New Monsters and Bosses
Vampyrium will also introduce several new combat encounters.
One new Slayer creature, the Ventor, provides a more consistent way to obtain blood shards. These monsters will likely be Slayer-task exclusive and offer additional rewards such as crafting materials for dragon ammunition.
The region’s main boss is the Megot King, a solo encounter designed to test precision and endurance. Its difficulty will fall somewhere between mid-tier and endgame bosses.
The Megot King will drop two unique items. The first is the Crimson Kiston, a powerful crush-based special attack weapon that performs multiple accuracy rolls in a single strike. The second is the Necklace of Rupture, a new best-in-slot ranged amulet with higher ranged strength than the Necklace of Anguish.
Sailing Expansions and New Islands
Later in the summer, Sailing will receive additional expansions, including new quests, islands, and training methods.
One quest continues the Tortugan storyline, requiring moderate Sailing and Smithing levels. Although its rewards are mostly utility-based, it introduces new locations and ship combat encounters.
Another exciting addition is a player-designed island chosen from community submissions. The winning concept introduces new skilling methods, a miniboss encounter, and unique equipment rewards.
One highlight is a boss known as the Mad Angel, featuring mechanics such as directional attacks and perfect parries, encouraging skillful combat.
The Fractured Archive Raid
The biggest update of the year arrives in winter with the release of a new raid called The Fractured Archive.
This raid will follow a structure similar to the Theatre of Blood, focusing on consecutive boss encounters rather than puzzle-solving. Players will fight through several minibosses before facing a final climactic battle.
While the raid can technically be attempted solo, it will scale for groups of two to eight players, making solo completions extremely challenging.
The rewards are expected to include a new mega-rare melee weapon, powerful armor upgrades, and several additional unique items.
A New Era for Old School RuneScape
With improvements to Sailing, major questlines reaching their climax, new skilling activities, fresh bosses, and an entirely new raid, 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Old School RuneScape.
These updates will not only add content but also reshape the game’s economy, combat balance, and overall progression paths.
